Effects of adding dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) to dog diets supplemented with xylanase and protease R. Bras. Zootec.
Risolia,Larissa Wünsche; Sabchuk,Tabyta Tamara; Murakami,Fabiane Yukiko; Félix,Ananda Portella; Maiorka,Alex; Oliveira,Simone Gisele de.
ABSTRACT This study aimed to evaluate the effects of including 200 g kg −1 dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) to xylanase- and protease-supplemented diets for dogs on kibble properties, digestibility, fecal characteristics, and palatability. Experimental diets consisted of: 0 g kg −1 DDGS without enzymes (0WE), 0 g kg −1 DDGS with xylanase and protease (0XP), 200 g kg −1 DDGS without enzymes (200WE), 200 g kg −1 DDGS with xylanase (200X), 200 g kg −1 DDGS with protease (200P), and 200 g kg −1 DDGS with xylanase and protease (200XP). Kibbles were evaluated for density, extruded size, expansion index, hardness, and uniformity. Six beagle dogs were distributed in a 6×6 Latin square design for analysis of digestibility and fecal characteristics. A...

Intake, nutrient apparent digestibility and ruminal constituents of sheep fed diets with canola, sunflower or castor oils R. Bras. Zootec.
Maia,Michelle de Oliveira; Susin,Ivanete; Ferreira,Evandro Maia; Nolli,Cristine Paduan; Gentil,Renato Shinkai; Pires,Alexandre Vaz; Mourão,Gerson Barreto.
The objective in this experiment was to determine the effects of feeding diets with canola, sunflower or castor oils on intake, nutrient apparent digestibility and ruminal constituents of crossbred Dorper × Santa Inês sheep. Four rumen-cannulated animals of 90.2±11.4 kg average body weight were assigned to a 4 × 4 latin square. Animals remained individually in cages for the metabolism assay and were fed diets containing roughage at 500 g/kg and concentrate based on ground corn and soybean meal also at 500 g/kg. No oil was added to the control diet, whereas the others had canola, sunflower or castor oils at 30 g/kg (DM basis). There was no difference for the intake of DM and nutrients, except for ether extract, which was greater when animals received oil....

Partial replacement of corn by soybean hulls in high-grain diets for feedlot sheep PAB
Homem Junior,Antonio Carlos; Nocera,Bruno Faleiros; Faleiros,Lucas Figueiredo; Almeida,Marco Túlio Costa; Paschoaloto,Josimari Regina; Perez,Henrique Leal; D’Áurea,André Pastori; Ezequiel,Jane Maria Bertocco.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the partial replacement of corn grains by soybean hulls, in high-grain diets, and its effect on the feeding behavior and ruminal fermentation parameters of feedlot sheep. Eight rumen-cannulated crossbred sheep were assigned to four treatment groups composed of a control, to fed a diet of 50% corn silage and 50% concentrate, and to three groups fed high-grain diets, as follows: 85% corn (Diet85), 75% corn plus 10% soybean hulls (Diet75), and 65% corn plus 20% soybean hulls (Diet65). High-grain diets reduced rumination time and provided a higher degradation of feed dry matter, a higher-propionic acid concentration, a lower-acetic acid concentration, a lower methane and carbon dioxide gas production, and a...

Purified cellulose, soybean hulls and citrus pulp as a source of fiber for weaned piglets Scientia Agricola
Pascoal,Leonardo Augusto Fonseca; Thomaz,Maria Cristina; Watanabe,Pedro Henrique; Ruiz,Urbano dos Santos; Amorim,Alessandro Borges; Daniel,Everton; Silva,Susana Zaneti da.
Dietary fiber is an important component, which has a direct effect on intake, digestion, and absorption of nutrients; and also alters intestinal microbiota and morphology according to solubility. One digestibility trial and one performance experiment were performed to evaluate the effects of sources of fiber in diets for 21 day weaned piglets. The experimental diets used in both trials consisted of a control diet and diets with purified cellulose, soybean hulls or citrus pulp as a main source of dietary fiber. To evaluate the digestibility of nutrients (Assay 1), the total feces and urine collection method was used. The fiber sources did not affect nutrient digestibility, except for soluble fiber, which increased with the inclusion of citrus (Citrus...

Rumen parameters and intake in goats fed cassava chips and alfalfa Rev. Ciênc. Agron.
Marques,Raquel Ornelas; Gonçalves,Heraldo Cesar; Meirelles,Paulo Roberto de Lima; Brito,Evelyn Prestes; Gomes,Helen Fernanda Barros; Oliveira,Giuliana Micai de.
ABSTRACT Pasture-based production systems and alternative foods can be used to reduce goat milk production costs by around 20%.The objective of this study was to examine the effect of substituting the corn and soybean meal of the concentrate with cassava chips and alfalfa, respectively, on the feed intake, fermentation, and rumen degradability parameters of adult, dry, empty, rumen-cannulated Saanen goats reared in a feedlot. The experiment was conducted as a Latin square design in which the following diets were tested: ground corn and soybean meal; cassava chips and soybean meal; ground corn and alfalfa; and cassava chips and alfalfa. The following variables were evaluated: feed intake, rumen parameters, short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, and feed...
